Tyler Hubbard stopped by the TODAY Show  on Tuesday morning (August 30), performing one of his latest singles from his solo project and delving into what lies ahead after more than a decade of recording hit country songs with duo partner Brian Kelley in Florida Georgia Line.

The “Cruise” duo confirmed earlier this year that they would put their FGL work on hold while they pursue their individual projects. Kelley said, as he and Hubbard saw FGL’s new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, that they’re not splitting up for good: “We're being artists. We love creating. And so a couple years back, we started writing without each other and trying different writers, and now we're both doing that with our music.”

“It’s a really exciting season, the next chapter for BK and myself, to get to kinda get more personal,” Hubbard explained on the show. Through their solo projects, he and Kelley get to “share our individual stories and our individual songs and kinda relate to the fans on a more personal level. So, it’s very exciting for both of us and it’s gonna be a fun journey, for sure.”

Hubbard also shared his excitement to join Keith Urban on tour next month. Urban is adding Hubbard to his headlining trek, which also includes “Good Person” singer Ingrid Andress (whose latest album released on August 26). Hubbard also spoke on the TODAY Show about bringing his family along for rehearsals, referencing an adorable video shared on social media of his 3-year-old son rocking out on his own guitar as his dad prepped for upcoming shows.

Earlier this month (just in time to join Urban’s tour), Hubbard released a six-track project, Dancin’ In The Country, ahead of his full-length album due in January. Hubbard said “these songs are fun and I’m super excited about them.”

During his stop on the TODAY Show, Hubbard played “5 Foot 9,” his first solo single to release earlier this year, serving as a tribute to his wife Hayley. The sweet song is one that serves as “a little reminder that there are a lot of good things in life. After all, ‘God makes the good stuff’ — whiskey, dirt roads, country music. But only He can make the great stuff that this song is really about.”
