Runaway June is getting into the holiday spirit… The trio announced that his Friday (November 25), they’re getting ready to release “Cowboy for Christmas,” and shared a brief snippet on social media to give fans a sneak peek.
The festive tune is one of the latest releases since the trio introduced its newest member, Stevie Woodward, to the group Woodward joined Natalie Stovall and Jennifer Wayne earlier this year after former lead singer Naomi Cooke Johnson left the group to pursue other projects. Woodward said on Instagram when she joined the group that she’s “so honored to be the newest member of [Runaway June]. cannot wait for the next chapter of life, and i wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else!”
Runaway June’s latest release is the heartbreak anthem, “Broken Hearts (Do Broken Things),” which nods to the relatable feeling “of getting your heart broken and going out and doing some questionable things,” Woodward previously explained, “so we wanted to make ‘Broken Hearts’ feel as supportive and inclusive as possible.” Wayne added that the three women sing the song in a way that makes the heartbreak a relatable experience rather than a personal one: “It’s our way of telling people, ‘We all screw up sometimes, but it’s okay because you’re gonna get through it and come out the other side.’ I think there’s a real beauty in that.”
Runaway June’s next song will join a collection of other holiday music by country stars, including songs and albums by Dolly Parton, Thomas Rhett, Dan + Shay and more. See a list of more holiday music here.
