Cole Swindell’s debut TV performance of the title track of his new album ended up being a memorable one for an unusual reason… It was pouring rain in Downtown Nashville when Swindell took the stage at the 2022 CMT Music Awards. He relived the rainy experience when he shared a video of the performance on Thursday afternoon (April 21). It aired during the CMT Music Awards Extended Cut.

“First live TV performance of ‘Stereotype’ and it was in the pouring rain at the [CMT] Awards. Thanks for hanging with us,” Swindell wrote on Twitter. The “Single Saturday Night” singer also got rained on when he and Lainey Wilson teamed up for a live performance of “Never Say Never,” a duet that depicts a spark between a jail officer and a prison inmate ignite an attempt to escape in its eerie music video. Swindell previously said in a statement of his latest project:

“It’s been a while since I released my last album, so it’s hard to put into words how much it means to me to get this album Stereotype out there. So much has changed in the world and even in my own life the past few years. I think all that has given me a chance to evaluate what’s really important in life and made me stronger. I believe this album reflects that in the most positive ways. I feel through all of the highs and lows and feeling every emotion in the last three years. I think the fans are going to find there is a song on here for everyone, at least I hope so. I always want my songs to make a difference like they did for me in writing some of them.”
