Jordan Davis has never been more “shocked” in his career as an artist than he was when he received a nomination in a major category at the upcoming 58th annual Academy of Country Music Awards.
Davis is nominated in the Male Artist of the Year category, along with Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Kane Brown and Morgan Wallen. Bobby Bones was first to exclusively reveal the nominees live on The Bobby Bones Show on April 13, and upon hearing his name listed among other country music heavyweights, Davis called in to the show. The “Next Thing You Know” artist said he was “pacing around y kitchen like an idiot,” in disbelief that he’d heard his name.
“I haven’t been that shocked in a long time,” Davis recently added, per his record label. “Definitely the most shocked I’ve been since I started doing music. I was definitely shocked to see that I was in that category. I knew I made it through to the last round, but, honestly, I was, y’all see the other nominees in there, some heavy hitters. So, to hear my name first, it was pure shock. But now too, in 2019, I was up for New Artist, so I think it goes to show that I’ve got a great team and great fans, and two, we made some great music that is connecting with people. The awards are amazing, but to be nominated with those guys is a huge win for me.”
Davis, a soon-to-be father of three, is known for smash-hit singles like “Buy Dirt” feat. Luke Bryan, “What My World Spins Around,” “Singles You Up,” “Next Thing You Know,” “Take It From Me” and many others. His latest album, the 17-track project Bluebird Days, made its debut earlier this year.
Dolly Parton is set to return to host the ACM Awards this year, joined by fellow country superstar Garth Brooks. See the full list of nominees here.
The 58th ACM Awards will take place at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. It’s set for Thursday, May 11 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT/5 p.m. PT.
