Morgan Evans opened up about his heartache ballad amid his divorce from fellow singer-songwriter Kelsea Ballerini, which the couple announced earlier this year. The pair announced that they were calling it quits after nearly five years of marriage.

Evans, 37, debuted a heartbreaking new song that he wrote as he and Ballerini, 29, split up. Evans played “Over For You” for the first time while touring in Australia, and recently shared a video of the audience’s reaction when he played the song for the second time ever at a Melbourne show. The Newcastle, Australia native powerfully sings: “I would’ve searched the whole world over for you/ Took a flight, through the night/ To be that shoulder for you/ I would’ve let go if you wanted me to/ How many times did you say you loved me when it wasn’t true/ I’m just wonderin’, how long has it been over for you?”

“I recorded this vocal on the same day we wrote the song,” Evans said in a statement. “It was a difficult time in my life and writing this helped me process a lot of what I was going through. …I’d like to thank everyone that has reached out the last few weeks, both those with messages of support and those sharing their own stories.”

Evans and Ballerini married in December of 2017, and they each confirmed the divorce on their respective Instagram stories in August. Evans wrote in his statement at the time: “I am very sad to confirm that after almost 5 years of marriage, Kelsea and I are parting ways. I wish it were otherwise but sadly it is not.”

Ballerini wrote: “Friends, I’ve always tried my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way, while also protecting layers of my personal life as they unfold. This is now public record so I wanted you to hear from me directly that I am going through a divorce. This deeply difficult decision is the result of a journey of love, growth, and effort that ultimately has come to an end. It’s hard to find the words here…but I feel extremely grateful for the years of marriage to Morgan and hopeful for the next seasons. With very active schedules coming up, please be mindful that we are both fragile, actively healing, and showing up the best we can. Kels.”

Evans has shared a few clips of his recent performances of his song, ”Over For You,” on his social media channels, including footage from his performance in Melbourne, which Ballerini “liked” on Instagram. Watch the full live performance video here:
