Kelsea Ballerini has a very important question: “...should i release a new song Friday?!”
The award-winning singer-songwriter posed the question on her Instagram story and in a re-posted TikTok on Tuesday (August 2), dancing to an unreleased song as fans eagerly await the release of her fourth studio album, Subject to Change. If the upbeat track (with ‘90s country vibes, as Ballerini promised) is available on Friday (August 5), it’ll mark the third song from the new project to release. Some previous TikTok commenters even compared the brief teaser to country music icons Trisha Yearwood and Shania Twain.
Ballerini kicked off her new era with “HEARTFIRST” earlier this year. “It’s all about just following your heart (and) trusting your gut,” Ballerini explained at the time. “I really believe that nothing great happens in life unless you take the risk and you take a leap of faith, and that’s what this whole song is about. …It’s very warm, very breezy-feeling, very settled. That’s kind of the tone of the whole project that I’m working on, and I feel like ‘HEARTFIRST’ was the first step into that new world.”
She followed it with “Love Is A Cowboy,” a wistful song that compares feelings for a love interest to “wild horses in your chest,” though the cowboy leaves her feeling blue.
Ballerini is gearing up for a 10-city tour in honor of her latest project. Subject to Change is set to release on September 23.
