Jake Owen couldn’t help but feel “giddy” after receiving a handwritten note from one of his “heroes” in country music. Ronnie Dunn — singer-songwriter and half of the iconic duo Brooks & Dunn, along with Kix Brooks — shared a note with Owen, who applauded the “killer new album” that’s set to release Friday (July 29).
“Came home off the road, checked the mailbox, and freaked out getting a handwritten note from one of my country music heroes,” Owen shared on Instagram on Tuesday (July 26). “Thanks [Ronnie Dunn] for being a legend, thanks for the music, and thanks for another kick a** honkytonk album.
“I see [Jake Worthington] and [Parker McCollum] are on there as well! A well touted pat on the back to those two studs,” Owen continued. “Country music is alive and well and I’m still a giddy fan getting stuff like this! Make sure y’all go chk out 100 Proof Neon! The killer new album from my cowboy friend [Ronnie Dunn]!”
Dunn’s soon-to-release 11-track album will include some previously-released songs, including “Broken Neon Hearts,” which released in February. The heartbreak anthem is a nod to “where the lost and lonely go/ It’s where the endless cold beer flows/ Music plays, and the healing starts/ For the lonesome, blue, Broken Neon Hearts.”
Dunn also released his collaboration with Worthington, which sees the two country artists on the lookout for a new Honky Tonk Town: “One that plays that honky tonk sound/ So many neon lights it looks like it's burnin' down/ Gotta find me a place like that/ Behind those swingin' doors I'll hang my hat/ Point it out on the map, I'll head out right now/ To that honky tonk town.”
