Tyler Hubbard’s debut single is a sweet tribute to his wife (even though one detail in the lyrics is slightly off…), but the singer-songwriter challenged himself to make the song more relatable to others. “5 Foot 9,” which Hubbard and other co-writers penned with inspiration by Hayley Hubbard, savors “a lot of good things in life.” Hubbard sings:

“God makes five foot nine, brown eyes, and a sundress/ Loves Tim McGraw and a small town accent/ Ain't no way that me and this truck made her fall in love/ Jack makes good whiskey but God makes the good stuff/ Oh, God makes the good stuff”

Hubbard took to social media during the long-awaited return of CMA Fest in Nashville from June 9 through June 12, challenging himself as a singer-songwriter to get creative with his lyrics to make the song relatable to fans of any height, including:

“God makes 5 foot tall, got it all, in a sundress”

“God makes 5 foot 1, she’s the one, in a sundress”

“God makes 5 foot 2, baby blues, in a sundress”

Since releasing the song, Hubbard admitted that one detail was a little off… Hayley isn’t 5’9’’. She’s 5’10’’. Still, she gushed: “I couldn’t be more proud of you and the journey that you’ve been on in the last couple years and i can’t put into words how lucky I am to have a front row seat to watch you create music that’s so uniquely you. Celebrating this guy today (and every day) so proud of him and this song. I’ve been happy teary-eyed all morning.”
