Lauren Bushnell Lane and her husband, country artist Chris Lane, announced this week that they’re expecting their second child later this year. Since then, Lauren opened up about her health and explained why she’s “trying to stay optimistic” during her pregnancy.

Lauren shared on her Instagram story that she’d been diagnosed with marginal cord insertion, PEOPLE reported on Wednesday (June 8). The story appears to have expired as of publication time. In it, Lauren said the first 13 weeks of her pregnancy “were way worse this time around” than when she was pregnant with her first child, Dutton Walker, who just turned 1.

“I just feel like I was way sicker, I threw up a lot more often, hence the hospital visit. Thankfully now I am feeling so much better,” Lauren shared. “I was recently diagnosed with something called marginal cord insertion. I was incredibly stressed out when my doctor told me that but I'm trying to stay optimistic.”

Lauren further explained that marginal cord insertion means the “umbilical cord attaches to the edge of the placenta verses of the middle, (where the baby can) "get the most amount of nutrients and it's the easiest way for the blood to flow to the baby.” The diagnosis calls for “extra monitoring,” and Lauren assured that “it’s not super uncommon.”

She and Chris confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday (June 6) that they would welcome their second child in late October. The proud parents admitted they were “shocked” to learn of the unexpected pregnancy, and expressed gratitude, as they’ve always “planned on having at least two kids.”
