Kenny Chesney made sure that the party carried out through the end of the show at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday evening (April 11). The country hitmaker took the stage with one of his biggest party anthems, “Beer In Mexico,” marking his first time to perform at the CMT Awards in seven years. Chesney’s longtime fans are undoubtedly familiar with his summertime anthem, pledging to cast any hardships aside and relaxing with a drink instead:
“So I just sit right here and have another beer in Mexico/ Do my best to waste another day/ Sit right here and have another beer in Mexico/ Let the warm air melt these blues away”
Chesney is gearing up for his highly-anticipated “Here and Now” Tour, bringing Dan + Shay, Old Dominion and Carly Pearce along with him. The CMT Music Awards allowed Chesney to give fans an impression of what to expect from his upcoming shows. The “Everyone She Knows” artist wrote on social media when he and CMT announced that he was part of the awards show lineup:
“I read your comments and I know there are some very passionate people who are joining us in Tampa on April 23 to be part of flying the @NoShoesNation flag for the first time since 2019, and I can’t wait to hear you roar. But when I realized the #CMTawards were happening next week, I asked if they could find space for us to debut this band a little early and play one of the songs that defined what we do live... and they said, 'C’mon.' I'm excited to officially share with you that we're closing the show April 11 at 8/7c on @cbstv.”
Kelsea Ballerini, who teamed up with Chesney on “half of my hometown,” introduced him to the stage as she hosted from home, shouting out her “hometown hero” and eight-time entertainer of the year. Relive Chesney's performance:
