Carly Pearce rocked the 2022 CMT Music Awards with a fiery performance of her “sassy” post breakup anthem “Diamondback,” an upbeat track on her latest album that sees the singer part ways with all of the belongings she once shared with her ex — except the diamond.
The bold song switches it up from other, more emotional heartbreak tracks Pearce included on her smash hit project 29: Written in Stone, including her collaboration with Ashley McBryde, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” (which she’s also performed live at awards shows). This one is the award-winning singer’s “little sassy moment,” she said when she appeared on CBS Mornings last month and revealed what she would sing at this awards show: “I am so excited. This is such a crowd favorite at my shows, and it’s kind of my little sassy moment to come give the ladies some strength… you can expect a lot of this sass. I’m gonna be ready for it.”
Later this week, Pearce will join a few other female country artists — Ashley McBryde, Brandy Clark and Mickey Guyton — to pay tribute to LeAnn Rimes as she celebrates 25 years as a recording artist. Pearce and others will team up for performances with Rimes, delivering renditions of some of her biggest hits. CMT Crossroads: LeAnn Rimes & Friends is set to premiere during the first CMT Music Awards week on Thursday, April 14 at 8 p.m. ET on CMT.
