Carly Pearce is taking the stage at the upcoming CMT Music Awards for a “little sassy moment” as she performs one of the bold tracks from her latest album, 29: Written in Stone. Pearce appeared on CBS Mornings on Wednesday (March 16), where she announced the nominations for the 2022 CMT Music Awards, an entirely fan-voted show. Pearce is nominated in two categories, including in the new CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year category for her performance of “Dear Miss Loretta (from CMT :60 songs) and in the Collaborative Video of the Year category for “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” with Ashley McBryde.

Although Pearce has teamed up with McBryde for several live performances of their hit collaboration, she’s performing something new at the upcoming CMT Awards show. Pearce is set to perform “Diamondback,” which she spoke about with CBS Mornings co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson:

“I am so excited. This is such a crowd favorite at my shows, and it’s kind of my little sassy moment to come give the ladies some strength… you can expect a lot of this sass. I’m gonna be ready for it.”

Diamondback” is a powerful breakup anthem that sees Pearce parting ways with all of the belongings she once shared with her ex — except the diamond: “Keep the house, keep the truck/ Go downtown, get too drunk/ Kiss a one-night stand with a butterfly on her back/ Take the bed where you used to lie/ Keep the friends I never liked/ And the happy ever after welcome mat/ But you ain't gonna get this diamond back/ No, never ever gettin' this diamond back/ You can keep the dog and the Cadillac/ But you ain't gonna get this diamond back”

King pointed out, however, that Pearce’s current relationship status is far from where she appears to be in the sassy breakup song. Watch Pearce’s appearance on the show here:
