Lainey Wilson Had A Hilarious Response To An Unexpected Message In Her DMs

Like many others, Lainey Wilson had a man slide into her DMs… But not in the way many might expect. Wilson hilariously shared how a man messaged her on social media as she spoke about her award-winning breakout song, “Things A Man Oughta Know.”

Wilson explained that the song — which won Song of the Year at the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards on Monday night (March 7) — started as she reflected on the important things her parents taught her. Growing up in small-town Louisiana, Wilson recalled learning “essential” tasks before leaving home, like “how to change a tire, how to start a fire (and) how to hook up a truck and trailer.”

But then, the song’s message turned into more than just do-it-yourself tasks. It evolved into a song about the characteristics that are most important in yourself and in others: “The song is really just about having good character. It’s about treating people the way that you wanna be treated, and I think it’s all important for us to know that. I’m just so glad that this song has grew a set of sings, and truly people have just latched onto it. Everybody from old men to little girls.”

That’s when Wilson thought about stories she’s heard because of her song, and laughed as she remembered one particularly unique encounter:

“…A few days ago, this man slid up into my DMs and he said ‘thanks for ruining my marriage!’ I’m like, ‘hey man, that ain’t my problem. You better figure that out. You need to take some lessons.’”

Wilson, who is also the reigning ACM New Female Artist of the Year, said she’s ready for the next steps in her career after celebrating her hit song and duet with Cole Swindell (“Never Say Never”): “I got more to say. I got a lot to say. I just am so glad y’all are along for the ride. It’s gonna be a damn good one, so hop on. Toot toot, let’s go!”
