Thomas Rhett surprised fans with another new song from his upcoming album on Friday (February 11) — and it’s a heartfelt track inspired by his wife, Lauren Akins. “Sorry for the overload of songs,” Rhett said in an Instagram video, performing an acoustic rendition of the new song (though fans don’t seem to mind the “overload”). “I just keep writing ‘em.”

“You guys have probably noticed by now that I love to share music with you in the moment, as it’s being created,” Rhett wrote as he shared the sentimental song on Instagram. “I posted this song I wrote for [Lauren Akins] back in September of 2020, and now [‘Us Someday’] is available everywhere. Hope y’all love it.”

“Us Someday” is now the most recent track to release before Rhett’s new album, Where We Started, is here in April. The “Slow Down Summer” artist — who plans to release two albums this year — already shared “Angels” and “Church Boots” last month. “Us Someday” is also the latest love song Rhett wrote for Akins.

“For me, this song is sort of talking to Lauren at 19 years old telling her, ‘I know you think this is crazy, but I believe all of these things are going to happen for us.’ And now here we are, over 10 years later, and most of those things actually happened, which is just the wildest thing,” Rhett explained in a statement. “I also love how different this song sounds from the rest on the project, it opens with just strings and a vocal. I hope people will listen and be able to relate with their own relationships.”

Rhett is one of many artists included in the star-studded lineup at the iHeartCountry Festival presented by Capital One, set for May 7 in Austin, Texas. Fans can tune in and stream the 2022 iHeartCountry Festival on iHeartMedia's Country music radio stations in local markets across the country, as well as on iHeartRadio.com and the iHeartRadio app on May 7th at 8pm ET/5pm PT (7pm CT).
