Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins are the epitome of “couple goals.” Going on a decade of marriage, Rhett and Akins have come a long way from their first kiss as teenagers to raising four daughters together. The country hitmaker recently explained how their romance has evolved over the years, admitting that “it definitely look me a minute to figure out.”
The “Slow Down Summer” singer recalled his relationship before they welcomed their kids into the family. Date nights meant going out for a nice dinner and pouring a glass of wine to watch a movie. Though those nights haven’t completely fallen to the wayside — as long as they “plan super (far) in advance for a date night” — Rhett shared how things have changed over the years. Now, his main focus is being present: “Like, if something is out of place, put it up. If the kids need to go take a nap, I make lunches in the morning before the kids get up to go to school, and all that kind of stuff. And so, when I’m off the road, being super present with my kids has turned into the new romanticism.” See Rhett’s full reflection of his relationship with Akins, in a statement shared by his record label, here:
“It’s definitely changed a lot over the years. Before we had kids, it was like, let’s make sure we go to a nice dinner, let’s maybe watch a movie, let’s pour a glass of wine. And I think that those things still obviously happen when we do plan super in advance for a date night, but now me being romantic is really just helping, if that makes any sense. And so, when I’m off the road, being super present with my kids has turned into the new romanticism. And it definitely took me a minute to figure out, but four kids later I think we’re rockin’ and rollin’.”
