Lee Brice delivered a heartfelt rendition of one of Garth Brooks’ most beloved ballads.
Brice caught up with brothers and podcast hosts Dan and Reid Isbell on a recent episode of God’s Country. The “Hard To Love” artist covered “The Dance,” an emotional song that Brooks released on his self-titled debut studio album in 1989. Brice’s performance gave the Isbell brothers chills:
“And now I'm glad I didn't know/ The way it all would end/ The way it all would go/ Our lives are better left to chance/ I could have missed the pain/ But I'd have had to miss the dance”
Brice and the Isbell brothers also shared what makes them “Hard To Love,” and the South Carolina-born country star teased some of the unreleased songs that will appear on his upcoming record. Most recently, he debuted “Cry,” a post-breakup song he wrote with Dallas Davidson, Ben Hayslip and David Garcia. The single was previously described as “a retro groove reminiscent of the great 1950s crooners and confesses that heartbreak can break a man too.”
“This week Reid and Dan host Award winning artist and outdoorsman, Lee Brice, out in God's Country. The episode kicks off with an epic listener roast and Lee sharing his own song ‘What You Mad At?’ diddy that teases an unreleased track from his upcoming record. Lee shares what it looked like growing up in South Carolina running dogs to deer hunt and singing specials with his family at church. He talks through raising kids outdoors and what his son does during turkey season that makes him the proudest. The guys roll through what makes them each ‘Hard to Love’ and the episode ends with a Gravorite that left Reid and Dan speechless, which is near impossible to do.”
Dan and Reid — who have written music for Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Scotty McCreery, Jon Pardi, Lainey Wilson and others — started their weekly podcast in early January 2024. Some of the first guests to appear on the show include HARDY, Dustin Lynch, Colbie Caillat and others.
“One of our favorite things about country music has always been how intertwined it is with the outdoors,” Dan and Reid Isbell said in a statement when God’s Country launched. They hope to “bring the outdoor enthusiast or country music lover an up close and personal look into the minds of some of the best songwriters and artists of the genre — a place where they can be honest about struggles, relationships, their connection to the outdoors, the music business, family, whatever they feel comfortable talking about. We can’t wait to see where this partnership will lead and who this podcast will reach.”
