Morgan Wallen recently shared the lessons he's learned this year, as well as how he has approached touring with a new mindset.

The country music star returned home to Tennessee Wednesday (November 9) for the 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards. While on the red carpet, Wallen was all smiles when he spoke to Extra about the the year he's had, including what it was like playing about 75 shows on his Dangerous Tour.

"I did them all mostly in a sober state of mind,” he recalled. "I was really, really focused. I kind of treated it like an athlete would a season, and I think that was really key to me. I feel like I really thrived in that."

The "Whiskey Glasses" singer also shared what lessons he hopes to pass along to his son Indigo Wilder.

"I’m going to just try to teach him to be grateful for the things that really matter," he began. "He’ll grow up in a way that I didn’t, just because of me and who I am. I didn’t really have a whole lot growing up, so I got to learn the importance of just values, and I just hope I can really instill in him the same that my parents did."

Wallen was nominated for the evening's highest honor, Entertainer of the Year, as well as Male Vocalist of the Year. While he might not have taken home any CMA Awards this year, he did deliver a special performance of his hit "You Proof" at the ceremony. The track is the third single Wallen has released this year, following "Thought You Should Know" and "Don't Think Jesus."
