Lainey Wilson’s single about growth and resilience bears new meaning to her now, she said days after announcing that she would cancel upcoming performances as her father undergoes surgery.

Wilson, 30, shared a clip of a performance of “Heart Like A Truck,” the powerful song she released in May. The reigning iHeartRadio Music Awards Best New Country Artist winner said on her social media channels on Friday (July 29): “This one means a little more right now. Reminding myself and all of you of the strength to be found during hard times.”

Earlier this week, Wilson announced that she would drop out of this weekend’s shows in Iowa because of a “family emergency.” She shared a sweet photo with her father later that day, asking for continued prayers: “My deddy. My cowboy. Please keep lifting him up in prayer. Toughest man I know. ❤️”

The Wilson family provided an update on Thursday (July 28), which the country artist shared on her Instagram story. The family said it was “critical to proceed with surgery,” and that the procedure “went well.” They said, in part: “Dad has a very long road ahead but he is fighting. He is fighting hard. …We want to thank all that have reached out. We have so many prayers going up. Please keep them coming. Like I said yesterday, Dad needs them, mom needs them, granny needs them, his sister need(s) them and his girls need them.”

Wilson explained when she released “Heart Like A Truck” that the song is “all about self-discovery, growth and embracing scars as badges of honor. After all, a truck that has hit a few bumps and earned some scratches has proved itself and its tenacity—the shiny one on the lot can’t say that.

“I’ve been through some s***. We all have. But when you get through it, you’re stronger and better for it on the other side,” Wilson added. “Nothing can hold me back from moving forward and finding a way to enjoy life, no matter what. I hope this song reminds y’all of that.”
