Thomas Rhett released another new song from his soon-to-release album, Where We Started, and the collaboration was inspired by a visit to a men’s prison in Tennessee. “Death Row” takes Rhett’s storytelling skills a step further, with the help of Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and “Love You Like I Used To” singer Russell Dickerson.

The three country artists visited a men’s prison and penned the sobering new song of redemption with Ashley Gorley and Zack Crowell, “armed with a pressure cooker of emotions,” reads a press release announcing Rhett’s latest song. Rhett reflected in a statement:

“Tyler, Russell and I went and played some songs for a men’s prison here in Tennessee. We left with a lot of complex feelings, so I started writing as a way to process the heaviness. Our goal was for people to understand our experience by way of music — it’s basically a page directly from our journal that day.”

Rhett has released a few other songs from his upcoming album, including “Slow Down Summer,” “Angels,” “Church Boots” and “Us Someday.” The full album is set to release on April 1. Where We Started is the first of two albums Rhett will release this year, along with Country Again: Side B. Listen to his latest song here:
