Garth Brooks made a surprise appearance on stage in Atlanta, Georgia, where his wife, Trisha Yearwood, performed on Wednesday evening (December 10).
Yearwood took the stage at Atlanta Symphony Hall as part of her “12 Days of Christmas Tour.” That show took place on the Georgia-born singer-songwriter’s 20th wedding anniversary with Brooks. To celebrate the occasion, Brooks surprised the audience and the married country icons performed “Merry Christmas, Valentine.” The duet is one of 12 tracks that appears on Yearwood’s new holiday record, Christmastime, along with “Blue Christmas,” “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and more.
Yearwood began her performance of “Merry Christmas, Valentine” with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in honor of her 20th anniversary with Brooks. Brooks was “ready to pour his heart onto the stage,” states a post shared on his website, when “emotion carried him away.” Brooks said in a statement: “I thought I was ready, and I was so wrong. The second I tried to sing, nothing came out...just tears...really good tears.”
Brooks, 63, and Yearwood, 61, got married in an intimate ceremony at their home in Oklahoma on December 10, 2005. Yearwood said in an anniversary tribute on Wednesday: “The very best part of the last 20 years has been you. Merry Christmas, Valentine. I love you. Trisha.”
