Luke Combs received an astonishing gift from Garth Brooks.
Combs reflected on the moment he unexpectedly received a massive gift from Brooks during an episode of Armchair Expert, hosted by actor and comedian Dax Shepard. Combs said he was feeding one of his sons when he saw his manager drive up in a Ford Bronco Raptor. The singer-songwriter said it was âweird,â and his manager âwould never show up at my house unannounced.â
Combs said his manager tossed him the keys, and he asked, âAre you giving me your car? What is this?â He said his manager replied, âno, man, Garth bought you this.â
The âBack in the Saddleâ superstar said he did ânot reallyâ know Brooks at that time. Brooks apparently gave Combs the Bronco because Combs agreed to perform a song in his honor at the Nashville Songwriters Awards in 2022 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Combs covered Brooksâ 1995 hit âThe Beaches of Cheyenneâ as a tribute when the Oklahoma-born icon received the Kris Kristofferson Lifetime Achievement Award. Brooks apparently contacted Combsâ manager shortly after the event to come up with a gift idea. The gift was delayed, and arrived more than a year later.
Combs said âobviously I called himâ after receiving the surprise Ford Bronco Raptor. He said Brooks told him, ââyou couldâve booked your own show that night, and, you know, made this much money, or whatever.â And I was like, I was just kind of floored by that, to be honest.â
Throughout the podcast, Combs went on to talk about his high school music teachers, his passion for playing music, his epic performance of âFast Carâ with Tracy Chapman at the Grammy Awards in 2024, what heâs learned about his OCD, and more:
âLuke Combs (Back in the Saddle, Fathers & Sons, What You See Is What You Get) is an award-winning songwriter, singer, and musician. Luke joins the Armchair Expert to discuss Garth Brooks gifting him a surprise truck, why buying a plane is akin to flushing money down the toilet, and still feeling lazy despite everything heâs achieved. Luke and Dax talk about his high school music teachers that still come to his shows, assuming that life was getting a job that you hate because he didnât know any different, and that being thankful for what you have and helping others is the antidote to entitlement. Luke explains why weâre in international waters in terms of where the music industry is going, how he took having his first studio album at #1 for 44 weeks, and the intrusive thoughts-related form of OCD that he's dealt with all his life.â
