Jana Kramer opened up about an “introspective,” “emotional” moment as she celebrated her birthday earlier this month.

Kramer, 42, reflected on her birthday on a new episode of Whine Down with Jana Kramer on Monday (December 15). She spoke with co-hosts Kristen Brust and Kathryn Woodard about “why she was in a funk.” The actress, singer, author and podcast host shared, “I get really introspective…on my birthday. I get emotional pretty much every year.

“Now I’m 42, and I think about where I was at 32, you know, or where I was at 22, and it’s just the roads that we’ve taken, some not the ways that I wish I would have went down, you know, but it’s just I get in this — I sat in a bit of a funk on my birthday,” Kramer said. “Not because I’m not happy where I’m at. I’m very happy. But...sometimes it feels like time was wasted and I suffer in that where it makes me sad that like I know how precious life and time is.”

Kramer, Brust and Woodard went on to reflect on what they’d do over again, what they appreciate about past experiences (Kramer noted her time on One Tree Hill, for example), how their experiences might change moving forward, and more.

Kramer said on her birthday on December 2 that she was “so blessed,” and “deeply grateful for my family, for this community, and for all of you who show up with so much love,” she wrote in a caption on Instagram. Her husband, Scottish former soccer star Allan Russell, wrote in a heartfelt birthday tribute that Kramer is “the most exceptional woman I’ve ever met.”

Russell turned 45 over the weekend. Kramer wrote in a tribute on Instagram: “I’m so grateful for you…for your heart, your love for our family, and the way you show up every day striving to be the best version of yourself even when it’s hard. That effort doesn’t go unnoticed, and it means more than you know. You bring strength, warmth, and laughter into our home, and I admire the man you are, the father you are, and the partner you continue to be. Here’s to another year of love, growth, and memories.”

Kramer and Russell got married at Carnell Estate in Scotland on July 13, 2024 (though she and Russell have since revealed on the podcast that they were actually married several months earlier). Kramer and Russell began dating in early 2023, and made their red carpet debut at the iHeartRadio Music Awards that year. They quickly announced their engagement and Kramer’s pregnancy with Baby No. 3, her first with Russell. the couple welcomed son Roman James in November 2023. He joined big siblings Jolie, 9, and Jace, 7, Kramer’s two children from her previous marriage, and Troy, Russell’s teen son from his previous relationship.
