Chris Stapleton Cover Poses Tough Decision For Reba McEntire On 'The Voice'

Two Team Reba artists delivered a powerful rendition of a Chris Stapleton song during The Voice Battles on Monday evening (October 20).

Leyton Robinson and Manny Costello covered “Think I'm in Love With You,” which Stapleton released on his studio album, Higher, in 2023. The duet earned praise from coaches Michael Bublé, Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg. When Bublé asked country legend Reba McEntire what she would do (knowing she would have to choose one artist to advance and another to send home), McEntire admitted, “I don’t know.” Each coach struggled to choose an artist to recommend for McEntire.

“I’m very proud of you both. even from rehearsals, you have grown so much. Leyton, I love your voice. I love your look. Everything. You’ve really put a lot of thought into it, and it is so professional. Manny, I’ve always loved that little gravelly grit, and it was so good. I’m very proud of you both.”

“I love to encourage,” McEntire said of The Voice in an interview with iHeartCountry earlier this year. “I can’t tell anybody, ‘Don’t do this. Go get a job. You’re not suited for this.’ But the way that we get to do the – I don’t say critique – advice, it’s helpful advice. It’s not tear-down. We want to lift up. We want to inspire. We want to encourage, not tear down. They get enough of that out there in the world.”

Host Carson Daly prompted McEntire to choose between Robinson and Costello. McEntire, who already used her “save” for another artist this season, hinted that she hoped another coach would steal one of the Team Reba singers.

“The winner of this battle’s gonna be Leyton,” McEntire decided. She hailed Robinson and Costello “two of my favorites. I absolutely love them.” The legendary country artist explained that she selected Robinson as the winner because “I think I could help her. I’m just so impressed with her vocals and I wanna give her some songs that really challenges her, and I think she’ll rise to the occasion.”
