Lainey Wilson Unveils More To Her Story In Leveled-Up 'Whirlwind' Chapter

Lainey Wilson said her story “wasn’t quite finished yet” after she released her Whirlwind record.

Now, the reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year is expanding the studio album with five new tracks one year after the original version’s debut. Wilson’s 19-track deluxe edition of Whirlwind made its highly-anticipated arrival on Friday (August 22). Newly-added songs include Wizard of Oz-inspired ballad “Somewhere Over Laredo,” “Bell Bottoms Up” (nodding to her bar of the same name in Nashville, Tennessee), “King Ranch, King George, King James,” “Yesterday, All Day, Every Day” (which Wilson's fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges, said is a “song on how we met”), and “Peace, Love, and Cowboys.” The newest additions to the Whirlwind chapter join “Country’s Cool Again,” “Good Horses” with Miranda Lambert, the title track, “Hang Tight Honey,” “4x4xU” and more.

“This story wasn’t quite finished yet,” Wilson wrote in a caption on Instagram. “I wrote these last 5 songs when the dust was starting to settle a little bit. Now I’m starting to feel it pick back up with the kick off of my Whirlwind World Tour North America tour dates. Y’all check it out and let me know which one is your favorite. Can’t wait to see you at a show here real soon.”

“These songs that are gonna be on the deluxe, they were all written after Whirlwind was out, so it was kind of like the next step, or what life I lived right after Whirlwind was released,” Wilson said in a recent interview with iHeartCountry. “And so, it was cool to be able to tap into that, and also, it’s cool to be able to share that side, too, with the fans. And I’m really, really proud of this. I mean, I’m partial, but somehow, I feel like we continue to push it and level up, and I feel like even the people that I write songs with, they’re feeling the same way. We’re like, ‘OK, we really did it with this one,’ and we’re like, ‘OK, well how does it get better than this?’ And then it somehow does. But that’s a good place. That’s a very good place to be in.”

Wilson said she’s “learned how to find inspiration in different places,” as she writes music while touring the world. Her ongoing “Whirlwind World Tour” is “a dang good time,” Wilson said. “Just be prepared to cut loose and let your hair down. That’s, at least, what I’m planning on doing. I just want everybody to feel welcome and come as you are and just enjoy the moment. Let the music take you somewhere. That’s what I hope for (with live shows).” See her upcoming tour dates below.
