A majority of American voters said they disapprove of President Donald Trump's overall job performance amid nationwide protests, however, immigration still remains his strongest issue.

The latest NBC News Decision Desk Poll released on Sunday (June 15) showed that Trump had a 45% approval and 55% disapproval rating, which was unchanged since the previously NBC News Stay Tuned Poll from April. The president is reported to also have a 35% approval rating and 65% disapproval rating among Independent respondents, according to the survey, while 89% of Republicans approved his job performance and 92% of Democrats disapproved.

Trump is, however, reported to have a 51% approval rating on his handling of border security and immigration, a main focus of his 2024 campaign. The survey was conducted as he announced plans to send thousands of National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to anti-ICE protests and days before more protests against his immigration actions broke out nationwide.

Last week, Trump's approval rating dropped to 38%, the lowest percentage of his second of two non-consecutive presidential terms, according to the Quinnipiac University poll. The president was reported to have a 38% approval rating and a 54% disapproval rating, having dropped below 40% for the first time after seeing a consistent decrease in support since his inauguration in January.

Trump previously had a 46% approval rating on January 29, a 45% approval rating on February 19, a 42% approval rating on March 13 and a 41% approval rating on April 9, according to Quinnipiac University.
