Ashley Cooke insists she wasn’t trying to ā€œstart dramaā€ when she accidentally dropped ā€œthe F wordā€ in front of her boyfriend’s family — but not the ā€œF wordā€ most listeners probably expect.

Rather than cursing, however, Cooke admits she said ā€œI’d probably spend forever with you,ā€ in the cleverly-written lyrics, and ā€œthe early declaration causes her to cringe,ā€ notes a press release from her record label.. The Academy of Country Music New Female Artist of the Year nominee debuted ā€œthe f wordā€Ā on Friday (April 18).

ā€œThis song immediately caught my attention from the title,ā€Ā Cooke said a statement of the ballad written by Lori McKenna, Gordie Sampson and Emily Weisband. ā€œIt's brilliantly written and resonates with anĀ experience I had in a past relationship…The song starts with 'I try not to swear,' which cracks me up because I have the mouth of a sailor, often using manyĀ f-words.ā€

Cooke announced the release date of ā€œthe f wordā€ — and delivered the first-ever live performance for the crowd of 20,000 — when she opened for powerhouse singer-songwriter Kane Brown last week at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The ā€œyour placeā€ star also performed ā€œthe f wordā€ earlier this year at the Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in Music City, notes the release.

Cooke said on Friday, ā€œthis song takes me back to the first time I met a guy’s mom and accidentally word vomited that we’d get married 🫠 it’s for the fall fasters, the lovers, the hopeless romantics.. and it’s now all yours.ā€
