Gabby Barrett introduced her Instagram followers to the newest member of her family on Tuesday afternoon (February 25).
The Chapter & Verse singer-songwriter, 24, shared a glimpse of the family’s new Siberian Husky. Barrett wrote on that slide of her Instagram story that the stray dog arrived on the family’s porch one night, and “now she’s ours!”
Barrett explained in a video on the following slide of her story that it’s common to find stray dogs in small towns in Texas, where she lives with her husband, fellow former American Idol contestant Cade Foehner, 28, and the couple’s three young children. One night, after putting the children to bed, a security camera alerted Barrett and Foehner to an animal on the porch. Barrett said the dog “looked really skinny,” and “had patches of fur missing” on her back.
“So, I couldn’t resist. I have such a heart for animals,” Barrett said, noting that she grew up with dogs and Foehner wanted to be a veterinarian when he was a child. The “I Hope” star left food outside for the dog. “She surely kept coming back, and we got her a dog house, we got her some dog food, and nobody was claiming her. So we decided to claim her ourselves.”
Barrett encouraged others to take the extra time to help stray animals and “give them some love.” Barrett said she and Foehner will “figure it out like we always do,” caring for their new dog and three children under 4 years old. The two artists are parents to daughter Baylah May, who turned 4 in January, son Augustine Bone, who turned 2 in October, and daughter Ivy Josephine, who celebrated her first birthday this month.
