Kelsea Ballerini shared the spotlight with a member of Team Kelsea during a recent arena show in Tampa, Florida.
Ballerini welcomed The Voice’s Angie Rey to the Amalie Arena stage on Saturday night (February 22). The show is one of many stops on Ballerini's first headlining arena tour after releasing her fifth studio record, Patterns. Together, the pair delivered a duet version of “homecoming queen?,” a heartfelt ballad that appeared on Ballerini’s 13-track studio album, kelsea, in 2020. A fan account for Ballerini shared a concertgoer’s video of that moment in Tampa. Rey commented: “I feel so grateful, I can’t even begin to say thank you - to Kelsea, to Tampa, to everyone. My life is changing and it’s because of y’all. Thank you thank you thank you. I am the luckiest girl ever 💛”
Ballerini’s jaw dropped almost immediately during Rey’s blind audition, recognizing that Rey chose to sing “Penthouse,” one of the tracks on Ballerini’s deeply vulnerable EP, Rolling Up The Welcome Mat. The surprise project and accompanying short film arrived in February 2023, sharing Ballerini’s story of heartbreak and healing after divorce. The Patterns artist has since started dating actor Chase Stokes. The couple recently celebrated two years together.
“This is my song!” Ballerini exclaimed when Rey began her performance. Rey, 25, shared afterward that she’s from Seminole, Florida, and she now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. She ultimately opted to join Team Kelsea, who joined The Voice as a coach for the first time alongside Michael Bublé, Adam Levine and John Legend. Ballerini joined Rey on stage for an impromptu duet of “Penthouse” after her blind audition. Watch them perform together again in Tampa here:
