Maddie & Tae Reflect On Things They Wish They'd Known Sooner

Maddie & Tae revealed details about the duo’s fourth studio record as they released their latest energetic anthem, “Kissing Cowboys.”

Maddie Font and Taylor Kerr will debut Love & Light, a 16-track record, on May 2, they announced on Friday (February 21). The album includes “stories of resilience, confidence, vulnerability, and the ever-enduring bond of friendship and sisterhood Maddie & Tae have formed over the years,” per a press release from the duo’s record label. Font and Kerr teamed up with Luke Dick, and Laura Veltz to write their newest single.

“The thing about being a little bit older,” Kerr said in a statement, “is you realize how many things you wish someone had told you. All the stuff you worried about, the pressure to be somebody else’s idea – when you really should be out there, well, ‘kissing cowboys.’”

Maddie & Tae’s “Kissing Cowboys” adds to a growing list of career-spanning hits from the duo, including “Die From A Broken Heart,” “Girl In A Country Song,” “Woman You Got” and more. Some recently-released tracks — including “Free Like,” “Sad Girl Summer” and “Heart They Didn’t Break” — will appear on Love & Light. Before the album arrives, Maddie & Tae will kick off their headlining “Love & Light Tour” this spring:

  • April 10 – New York, NY – Irving Plaza
  • April 25 – Chicago, IL – Joe’s Live
  • May 1 – Nashville, TN – Ryman Auditorium
  • May 9 – Denver, CO – Ogden Theatre
  • May 15 – Los Angeles, CA – El Rey Theatre

“We’ve been out on the road, playing for a few thousand people at our own dates,” Kerr said. “We realized people are hungry for songs that tell it like it is about being single, being done wrong, being done right, and figuring out how to grow up without losing your sense of self, your friends or your dreams. So, we leaned into all those things.” Font added: “And we didn’t let go of that sound where we take acoustic instruments, really make them shine and then thread all that electric goodness through a pretty stout base.”
