Riley Green shared a cover of a beloved 90s country hit on Sunday evening (February 2).
The Don’t Mind If I Do artist played his rendition of ons of Shania Twain’s most iconic ballads, “You’re Still The One.” Twain released the romantic song in the late 90s on her Come On Over album. That record also included “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!,” “Come On Over,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “Honey, I’m Home” and more.
“Looks like we made it/ Look how far we've come, my baby/ We mighta took the long way/ We knew we'd get there someday/ They said, ’I bet they'll never make it’/ But just look at us holding on/ We're still together, still going strong
“You're still the one I run to/ The one that I belong to/ You're still the one I want for life/ You're still the one that I love/ The only one I dream of/ You're still the one I kiss goodnight”
“Somethin about being back on the farm always makes me want to pick a little bit. What a song,” Green wrote in his caption as he shared the video of himself playing his guitar and covering the 90s ballad. Some of the commenters said they “never knew I needed this cover but here we are,” “everything about this is so beautiful,” and “one of the best country singers of this generation,” among others.
Green’s cover arrives as the “Way Out Here” star gets ready to kick off his headlining “Damn Country Music Tour” after the release of his third studio record. Green announced his tour with a Smokey and the Bandit nod. The tour will include “you look like you love me” duet partner Ella Langley, plus Drake White, Vincent Mason, Lauren Watkins, Jake Worthington, Preston Cooper, Erik Dylan, Wyatt McCubbin, Mike Ryan and Channing Wilson on select dates.
“I learned to play guitar to my granddaddy’s favorite country songs from back in the day and the new album is a throwback to the era when I first became a fan,” Green said in a statement when he announced the tour. “For this tour I was able to find some of my favorite artists and songwriters to join us, and singing with Ella every night will be a lot of fun.”
