Lainey Wilson spoke about her experience on Yellowstone ahead of the Western drama’s season 5B finale on Sunday (December 15).
The Whirlwind hitmaker previously made her acting debut on the show as Abby, a country singer and a role that show creator Taylor Sheridan wrote for her. Wilson posted photos from a recent photoshoot and interview with Vanity Fair on Friday (December 13), and during the conversation, she spoke about her experience with Yellowstone and how she started appearing in the epic series.
Wilson met Sheridan at a horse-reining competition in Las Vegas, “and we really bonded over horses. …He called me a couple years later and was like, ‘Hey, I’ve got this idea. I want to create a character specifically for you. We’re going to name her Abby. And you’re going to pretty much just kind of be yourself. Maybe you’ll say and do some things that you wouldn’t normally do, but you’re going to be able to dress how you dress and sing your songs.’ It was such a blessing because it really put a face to a name. Especially during a time when people might have known the song on the radio, but they just didn’t know who sang it or what they looked like. That’s what Yellowstone did for me.” Find Wilson's full Q&A with Vanity Fair here.
Wilson told the outlet in a separate interview published earlier this month that she didn’t know when her scenes would air, and she only received her own script, “so I have no clue what the rest of the season is gonna look like. But if it has the same kind of feeling and attitude that my script has, I think it’s gonna be pretty bad***, and I think people are gonna be excited to to see it end this way.”
Yellowstone made its debut in 2018. The show focuses on “a ranching family in Montana (facing) off against others encroaching on their land.” It stars Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Kevin Costner, who confirmed his departure from the show earlier this year. His character’s shocking fate was revealed quickly in the season premiere.
