Sundance Head opened up about what was running through his mind as he awaited help after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach on his ranch in Texas. The country artist and previous winner of The Voice said in a third statement that he thought about his wife and children.
Head, 46, previously spoke out about how the incident happened, and thanked those who helped him that day. It happened around 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT on Friday (November 15). Head’s last video ended as he flagged down a passing driver on the highway. He said in his latest statement that the driver called 911.
“And while we were waiting, I was just so panicked,” the former Team Blake Shelton artist said. “I was asking him to please help me, and said it over and over again. ...I was in such a panic, man, but really, I wanted to talk to my wife. I thought I was going to die, and all I could think about was, 'I need to talk to my wife.' I wanted to be able to tell Misty that I loved her and that everything would be OK. And to, you know, just take care of my children for me, and tell them that I love them.”
Head said he was able to talk to his wife briefly before the ambulance arrived. The short ride felt as though “it took forever,” as Head was transported to the sheriff’s department to be airlifted to the hospital, he said. Although he said he’s claustrophobic and afraid of heights, the country artist said he was relieved when the helicopter arrived. On the way to the hospital, he said he prayed and envisioned his children.
Head, who pledged to share additional updates, previously said he’s “thankful to be alive.”
