Cole Swindell knew Lainey Wilson would be “perfect” to join him on a duet.
The pair teamed up on “Never Say Never,” a collaboration that appeared on Swindell’s fourth studio album, Stereotype, which released in April 2022. That project also included Swindell’s award-winning, Jo Dee Messina-inspired single, “She Had Me At Heads Carolina,” “Some Habits,” “Single Saturday Night” and more.
Swindell and Wilson previously caught up with iHeartCountry, and shared the story behind their duet. Swindell teamed up with songwriters Chase McGill and Jessi Alexander to write “Never Say Never,” which is “about two people in a relationship that might not be the best for either one of them, but I think a lot of people can relate. It’s hard to say no to some things,” he explained. He remembered the moment he told Wilson, “I think you’d be perfect on this.”
“I was sitting on the beach,” Wilson said of the moment she first heard the song. “I was taking a vacation for the first time in 10 years. Cole sends me the song, and y’all, immediately when I heard the first verse, I knew that I had to be a part of this. It made me feel something, and it was written by some of the best songwriters in Nashville. So, I said ‘sign me up!’”
