Blake Shelton nods to one of country music’s most beloved legends with his soon-to-debut single titled after the Lone Star State. Shelton announced his new single, “Texas,” described as a “fresh and addictive song (that) captures the classic theme of lost love with a twist and nod to George Strait, who knows best where all the exes go,” per a press release issued Tuesday morning (November 12)
“The thing that struck me about ‘Texas’ immediately was how different it sounded for me, and I’m always looking to push myself,” Shelton said in a statement. “I think there’s something really special about this record and important for me.
“This is the perfect opportunity to come back with something so different, and it easily felt like it should be the first single,” he continued. “It’s connected with what I’ve done but moves forward at the same time, and it’s the perfect start to the next chapter of my career.”
Johnny Clawson, Kyle Sturrock, Josh Dorr and Lalo Guzman teamed up to write “Texas.” It was produced by Scott Hendricks, Shelton’s longtime producer. The soon-to-release single finds the singer guessing that his “free-spirited” ex likely made her way to Texas after the split.
“Texas” is set to make its debut on Friday (November 15). Shelton will perform the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live on November 20.
