All four coaches on The Voice were vying for an aspiring country artist who delivered a heartfelt cover of a Morgan Wallen ballad during his blind audition.
Tanner Frick, who said he's originally from Mississippi, took the stage with a rendition of Wallen’s “Thought You Should Know.” The song appears on the East Tennessee-born singer-songwriter’s One Thing at a Time album, which made its debut last year. First-time coach Snoop Dogg claimed credit as the first to turn his chair during Frick’s performance, in addition to fellow first-time coach Michael Bublé, and returning coaches Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire.
Frick said he typically plays music in small town restaurants and bars, and horse barns. He credited his musical heroes as classic country artists Hank Williams Jr., Waylon Jennings and “the Queen,” McEntire. McEntire said after the Mississippi-born singer’s audition, “Tanner, I thought you sang really, really well. I love that song. When you did that Chris Stapleton growl, that just added so much dimension to your voice.”
Though all four coaches battled over Frick, he ultimately opted to join Team Reba this season. McEntire said it’s “a great feeling,” to win a four-chair turn during the blind auditions. Watch Frick’s performance here:
