Parker McCollum’s signature, traditional-sounding country vocals take the spotlight in the single he released on Friday (September 13).
The Texas-born artist wrote “What Kinda Man” with Natalie Hemby and Jeremy Spillman. The toe-tapping, honky tonk-worthy anthem was produced by Frank Liddell and Eric Masse. The first-time dad, who welcomed Baby No. 1 with his wife last month, said “What Kinda Man” takes him back to his Texas upbringing and “feels like home.”
“Could not be more excited to share this new music with the world, especially this new single ‘What Kinda Man,’” McCollum said in a statement. “Lately, I’ve been coming back to this sound and the roots of where I started out. I think this new song is my way of revisiting that and creating something that feels like home to me and my fans. I hope the world loves it."
McCollum’s latest full-length album is Never Enough, a 15-track record that arrived in May 2023. That collection included McCollum’s smoldering single, “Burn It Down,” plus “Stoned,” “Handle On You,” “Speed,” “I Ain’t Going Nowhere” and more. McCollum also appeared as the sole duet parter on fellow Texan Miranda Lambert’s newly-released album, Postcards from Texas, serving as a nod to the Lone Star State.
McCollum is gearing up to take the stage at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, where he’s also nominated in the Cover Song category for his rendition of John Mayer’s “Perfectly Lonely.” The People’s Choice Country Awards will air live on Thursday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock. McCollum is also up for Song of the Year (“Burn It Down”) at the 58th CMA Awards in November. That show is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20. It will air live at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on ABC, and will be available the following day on Hulu.
