Jana Kramer debuted the heartfelt ballad she wrote for her husband and shared with him on the couple’s wedding day over the summer.
Kramer released “Warrior” on Friday (September 13). She teamed up with Sara Brice and Aubrey Toone to write it, and it was produced by Sara’s husband, country star Lee Brice, and fellow artist Jerrod Niemann. Kramer paid tribute to the team of “creative geniuses” in a lengthy Instagram caption on Thursday (September 12), hours before releasing “Warrior.” Earlier this week, she also shared a video of the intimate moment she played the song for her husband, Scottish former soccer star Allan Russell, on the morning of their wedding.
“Writing songs has always been a personal and vulnerable experience for me,” the Whine Down with Jana Kramer host shared. “The reason I wanted to sing and do music was because music has always helped me in the times when I needed it the most and I wanted to be able to give that back. So, throughout the years I’ve always sang and wrote songs I related to and many of them I would hope that it would help others with whatever they were going through too. …When I met Allan, I knew I wanted to write him a wedding song. I wanted to, in a way say thank you, but also ‘I will always be there by your side fighting for us.’
“I remember when we finished, I cried because It was everything I wanted to say to Allan,” Kramer said when she reflected on the process of bringing “Warrior” to life.
Kramer, 40, and Russell, 43, got married in Scotland on July 13. The stunning ceremony included Kramer’s two children from her previous marriage — Jolie, 8, and Jace, 5 — Troy, 16, Russell’s son from a previous relationship, and the baby Kramer and Russell share. They welcomed son Roman James Russell in November 2023. Russell hailed Kramer “an absolute warrior of a woman and incredible mum who I simply adore.”
