Miranda Lambert will receive the Country Icon Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards.
Lambert was selected “for her decades-long career, during which she’s built an authentic, female-forward brand of country that has shaped the industry,” reads a press release announcing Lambert’s honor on Thursday morning (August 22). The “Wranglers” powerhouse will receive the Icon Award when the second annual event returns to the historic Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee. She’s hailed an award-winning artist (including the most-awarded artist in Academy of Country Music history), an advocate for animals, a businesswoman, a best-selling author and more. Lambert will receive the Icon Award shortly after she releases her ninth, “honky tonk as hell” studio album, Postcards from Texas, which is due on September 13.
“A tour de force in country music for more than 20 years, Miranda Lambert’s groundbreaking albums continue to capture the hearts of fans around the world,” Jen Neal, Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials at NBCUniversal Entertainment said in a statement. “We’re so excited to celebrate her career, fierce individualism and innovation in the industry with the Country Icon Award.”
Lambert is the second artist to receive the Icon Award, following late country star Toby Keith at the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards last year. Nominees of the upcoming show were revealed earlier this month, including Beyoncé, Kacey Musgraves, Zach Bryan and Shaboozey and others among the top nominees. See the full list here.
The People’s Choice Country Awards, hosted by Shania Twain, will air live on Thursday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock.
