Keith Urban took the stage at a small-town bar to deliver his rendition of “Go Home W U” in the music video that premiered on Thursday (August 15).
Urban teamed up with reigning CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson on “Go Home W U,” which he previously explained was never intended to be a duet (though the Whirlwind artist took it “to another level”). Urban incorporated footage from the duo’s performance at CMA Fest, hailed the longest-running country festival in the world, earlier this year on the main stage in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. The duet was one of 30 performances to air in a televised concert special.
“Go Home W U” is one of five tracks already available from Urban’s upcoming 12-track album, HIGH. Urban has also released “Straight Line,” “Messed Up As Me,” “Wildside” and “Heart Like A Hometown.” The new album will arrive on September 20, Urban confirmed in late June.
“I wrote ‘GO HOME W U’ in 2020 with BRELAND, Sam (Sumser) and Sean (Small),” Urban previously said via his record label. “We had a blast writing it. It started out as a late-night drum loop, I grabbed a bass guitar and started playing a simple recurring bass line. Before we knew it, we were writing a chorus that could be sung by any drunk person in any bar anywhere in the world. …A friend of mine suggested the idea of making the song a duet and I immediately thought of Lainey. Besides the fact that I love her voice, she’s got the swagger and attitude that fit so well with the song.”
Wilson, who surprised her audience with a performance of the duet during her headlining tour stop in Nashville, said Urban “has been someone in the industry I’ve taken notes from for a while now. From watching him at CMA Fest every year growing up to hearing the way he treats people up and down music row, he has taught me a lot. He’s a genuine supporter of mine and I am honored I get to continue to learn from one of the best. Getting to do a song with Keith is a notch on my belt I am very proud of.”
Urban is one of many artists taking the stage at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival, returning to the T-Mobile Arena stage on September 20 and 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Other artists in the genre-spanning lineup include Big Sean, Camila Cabello, Doja Cat, Gwen Stefani, Hozier, Thomas Rhett, New Kids on the Block, Paramore, Shaboozey, The Black Crowes, Victoria Monét, and more. Ryan Seacrest will host the two-day festival. Tickets are available to the general public now on AXS.com.
