Luke Combs shared a video of the moment he introduced two of his high school best friends to a stadium crowd as a punishment for losing fantasy football.

Combs said as he addressed the audience that he was interrupting his performance to deliver an “extra segment,” putting two of his high school friends on the spot. The award-winning country star explained he’s been in a fantasy football league with a group of high school friends for more than a decade, and last year, the group decided whichever friend lost would join Combs on stage and sing with him.

“Now, lucky for me, there was a scoring issue in the last game, and my two best friends in the whole world both lost, and they both have to come out and sing in front of you guys tonight,” Combs said. “I am so excited about it. These guys have been nervous about this for a long time.”

Combs said his friends, Zach and Austin, did not get to select the song when they joined their world-famous high school friend in front of thousands of fans during the recent show in Cincinnati, Ohio. They delivered a rendition of “Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn. Combs said in the video he shared on Instagram on Tuesday evening (August 6):

“Now, before we go into the next song (in our) regularly scheduled programming, I’ve got a little extra segment that I want to do at the end of the medley. And we’ve never done this before. Hopefully we’ll never do it again. You’re about to see why. So, who knows what Fantasy Football is in here? Does anybody know what that is? I figured you did. So, I’ve been in a fantasy football league with some of my best friends from high school for 12 years now. And last year, we decided that whoever lost was gonna have to come on stage and sing with me tonight. Now, lucky for me, there was a scoring issue in the last game, and my two best friends in the whole world both lost and they both have to come out and sing in front of you guys tonight. And it’s about to happen, and I am so excited about it. These guys have been nervous about this for a long time. We worked a little something up with the band. Now, they didn’t get to pick what song they were gonna sing, and if you noticed — come on out here, fellas, don’t be shy, come on out — I want everybody to get a look…at their blue suede shoes, because these boys are about to be walking in Memphis for y’all.”

“The stakes are high in our fantasy football league and it’s not so much about who wins but who loses. Take it away, fellas,” Combs captioned the video.

Combs is wrapping up his “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour” this month. The 2024 headlining tour was named after the title track on the second installment of Combs’ back-to-back albums, Growin’ Up (2022) and Gettin’ Old (2023). His latest project is Fathers & Sons, a 12-track collection that serves as a tribute to his life as a father to two young boys. Combs and his wife, Nicole Combs, welcomed son Tex Lawrence on Father’s Day in 2022, and Baby No. 2, son Beau Lee, arrived in August 2023. The family shared a heartfelt moment together last month when they viewed Comb’s newly-unveiled exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
