Megan Moroney said she ânever exclusivelyâ dated Morgan Wallen.
The reigning Academy of Country Music New Female Artist of the Year sat down with Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper on a new podcast episode that premiered on Wednesday (July 31). During the in-depth conversation, Cooper aimed to clarify: âDid you date Morgan Wallen?â
âNever exclusively,â Moroney replied. âI have so tried to avoid that in every single interview Iâve ever done. But weâre here now, and time has passed, and all is well.â
Morony added that she âwill not say who my songs are about ever,â when asked whether her award-winning breakout single, âTennessee Orange,â was about Wallen, from East Tennessee. The heartfelt ballad sees the Georgia-born singer-songwriter embracing a budding romance with a Tennessee fan. She said she has âno ideaâ whether Wallen has written any songs about her, to which Cooper cleverly referenced Wallenâs recently-released single, âLies Lies Lies.â
âIt was never a relationship,â Moroney said. âHereâs what Iâll tell you though. Because I havenât told anyone this ever. So, him and I met in 2020. Jon Langston [fellow country artist whom Moroney opened a show for in college, she said during the Call Her Daddy episode] actually introduced us. So, I was a senior in college. COVID hadnât happened yet. His Dangerous album wasnât even out yet. So, we were friends for a long time. âŠWe were not just friends, and now weâre friends.â
The Emo Cowgirl said she considers Wallen âa very private person,â and because of their âinsaneâ schedules, they donât often get opportunities to see one another in person. âHonestly, I just, because heâs such a private person, it just feels awkward talking about it,â Moroney added.
âIâm so single,â she beamed when Cooper asked about her current dating life. âI love it. I sleep so good.
âŠIâm in REM sleep every night, and I feel like all of my free time is being spent with my girlfriends and I can just really enjoy being in the moment. I feel like, like I said, Iâm very sensitive, so when I do date someone, if weâre having problems or whatever it may be, it really does affect me. Iâm the someone where my mood immediately is affected. âŠIâm way happier single, for now, at least.â
Throughout the podcast, Moroney âopens up about her childhood in Georgia, feeling lost in high school, never fully fitting in since she was a theater kid and a cheerleader, and how her first boyfriend was actually her brotherâs best friend. She talks about her college experience, educates Alex on sorority life, and breaks down the times she was getting cheated on but convinced herself to stay. Megan and Alex realize they have the same professional athlete in their past and of course, Alex asks the question weâve all been wondering⊠what exactly happened with Morgan Wallen? Megan also reveals that she is OG Daddy Gang but has traded the toxic for therapy and is truly thriving now. Finally, they discuss Meganâs rise to fame, her approach to songwriting, and her new album.â
Earlier this month, Moroney released her highly-anticipated sophomore album, Am I Okay?, to follow her widely-successful debut project and its deluxe edition, Lucky. The 14-track collection includes âNo Caller ID,â âMan on the Moon,â â28th of June,â âIndifferent,â and other tracks that fans quickly embraced after the albumâs July 12 release. Moroney describes her sophomore project as âLuckyâs cooler older cousin that can drink.â She said after releasing her debut record, she âfelt like I could open up and discuss things Iâve never talked about in my music before. âŠI wanted to capture what life feels like in your 20s, where one minute youâre sad about an ex and the next youâre just having fun with your friends and couldnât care less.â
