Thomas Rhett Ignites Nostalgia With Heartfelt Story About Young Love

Thomas Rhett was about to crash a party with the guys when a phone call immediately changed his plans.

Rhett put his car into overdrive when a girl called to ask, “can you pick me up tonight?” The country star tells the story on the latest anthem that released from his upcoming seventh studio album, About A Woman. “Overdrive” arrived on Friday (July 12). It’s “the second to last song we’re putting out before the About A Woman release,” Rhett confirmed. The award-winning country artist co-wrote the nostalgic anthem that captures the feelings of young love and life growing up in a small town. He brought those stories to life with a music video starring his younger brother, Tyler Lankford, on Friday morning.

“From top to bottom, I wanted to exude joy and fun with this project – and really just make people move,” Rhett said when he announced new details about the album last month. “I went into making this record with a fearless attitude, put my blinders on and my head down to try and make really fun music. …I feel like if you were to ask me what this record is about, the answer would be it’s about one woman, my wife, and it gave me an opportunity to say ‘I love you’ in a lot of different ways.”

Rhett co-wrote all but one of the 14 tracks on the album, which serves as a tribute to his wife, Lauren Akins. The two met while growing up and tied the knot in October 2012. They’ve since welcomed four children together. So far, Rhett has debuted “Beautiful As You” and “Gone Country” from his forthcoming record inspired by his wife. About A Woman is set to release on August 23.
