Jelly Roll is gearing up to release a brand new album, and can hardly contain his excitement.

The "Save Me" star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday (June 26) and got candid with "Father of the Bride" actor and guest host Martin Short about writing songs in prison, pre-show rituals, and of course, his highly-anticipated next album. Roll opened with the fact that he's actually not allowed to reveal any information about the forthcoming project, but that he would speak his truth anyways.

"Oh, I'm not supposed to say, but I will. This is the hint I will give: Jelly Roll's music favors the fall." While this is the only hint he offered, the beloved country king also spoke on the origin of his career, mentioning that he wrote some of his first songs in prison.

"I was always writing songs as a kid to kind of connect with my mother because she loved music, but in jail is where I really started. I had a lot of time. So I was like 'maybe I should invest this time in something positive,' so I wrote a bunch of songs." The "Son Of a Sinner" standout went on to share that songs were not the only thing he took away from prison. Aside from a handful of lessons and a few lifelong friends, the humble hitmaker obtained his very first tattoo behind bars.

"You can get a face tattoo in prison for a pack of cigarettes and some peanut butter," Roll revealed with a chuckle, drawing attention to his famous face tattoo.

The award-winning artist is slated to embark on his 2024 Beautifully Broken Tour in August featuring special guests Alexandra Kay, Warren Zeiders, Shaboozey, Ernest, and Allie Colleen.
