Billy Ray Cyrus and his estranged wife, FIREROSE, reportedly accused one another of abuse in court documents filed amid the couple’s ongoing divorce. They're parting ways less than one year into their marriage.

Cyrus, 62, “would acknowledge that he was certainly vocal, frustrated and angry with the Defendant [FIREROSE] in May 2024, it is the plaintiff who, in fact, has been abused,” reads a court document filed this week in Williamson County, Tennessee. That document alleges FIREROSE “physically” abused Cyrus, who has also denied his estranged wife’s allegations of abuse. Cyrus also claims he was unaware that FIREROSE, who is in her mid-30s, is genetically more likely to develop breast cancer, following her claims that he filed for divorce one day before she was scheduled to undergo a preventative double mastectomy (Cyrus has since claimed in court documents that the surgery was not scheduled at that time). She accused Cyrus of verbal and emotional abuse in response to the preventative procedure.

“Billy Ray’s story keeps evolving and this filing is simply another abusive tactic to distract away from the serious, true allegations brought against him, backed by an abundance of evidence. The only individuals supporting his false claims are those on his payroll, whose credibility is questionable,” a representative for FIREROSE told TMZ on Tuesday (June 25). “The audacity to question a BRCA-positive women’s [sic] decision to undergo a preventative surgery further shows the kind of cruel manipulation Firerose was subjected to. What Billy Ray fails to recognize is when you have a decades-long history of emotional and psychological abuse, people start to take notice. The truth will come to light.”

Previous court filings include other allegations between the estranged couple, including Cyrus’ accusation that FIREROSE attempted to isolate him from his family (in particular, one of his daughters, who was not named in the document). Cyrus also accused FIREROSE, Johanna Rose Hodges, of lying about her name and a previous marriage (particularly that “Hodges” is the last name of an ex-husband, as opposed to her maiden name). Cyrus filed a temporary restraining order against FIREROSE earlier this month. He alleged she spent nearly $97,000 in “unauthorized” charges on his credit card. Her attorneys, however, said at that time that FIREROSE has had access to her estranged husband’s card for approximately two years, and Cyrus “has no right to cut her off.”

Cyrus confirmed his engagement to FIREROSE, his “soulmate,” in late 2022, following speculation after she was seen wearing a dazzling ring on Instagram. They got married on October 10, 2023, and shared wedding photos the following day. Cyrus said at that time that it was a “beautiful, joyous day that our two souls united as one in holy matrimony,” and called FIREROSE the “beautiful love of my life.” Cyrus cited “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct” when he filed for divorce last month.
