Scotty McCreery shared the sweet way his wife manifested their life together when he spoke with Jennifer Hudson on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
McCreery, 30, and his wife, Gabi McCreery, met when they were in kindergarten. They started dating in high school, and tied the knot in 2018. They welcomed their firstborn child, son Merrick Avery McCreery, in October 2022. McCreery looked at photos with his wife and son, who goes by Avery, on the night of his Grand Ole Opry induction during his conversation with Hudson.
“All my family flew in. I had friends, family, my whole team. I mean, I heard Mickey [Guyton, who also appeared on the show] say it, it does take a village, you know?” McCreery said. “And my little boy. That’s my wife. I’m so lucky. Me and my wife, we go way back. We’ve been friends our entire life. …We met our very first day of kindergarten class. We found her kindergarten diary in her parents attic, and she has ‘Mrs. Gabi McCreery’ written in hearts all over it. I’m so glad she did [manifest it]. She’s the best thing ever.”
McCreery caught up with iHeartCountry last month on the 59th ACM Awards carpet. He said it’s been “the best,” to balance his work as an artist with his family life, even though it can be difficult to juggle at times. It ain’t easy figuring out that balance. I’m not really sure we’ve figured it all out yet, but we’re trying. He’s such a cool, easy baby, knock on wood. He hits the tour bus, he goes on planes, he’s just chillin’. It’s all he’s ever known, so I don’t think he’s had a choice, but he’s a good baby.”
McCreery — who recently released his fifth full-length studio album, Rise & Fall — launched his career when he won American Idol in 2011. He was 17 at the time. The “Five More Minutes” artist bonded with Hudson over their experiences on the competition show (Hudson competed on American Idol in 2004). During that conversation, McCreery remembered his favorite Idol performance. He took the stage with “That’s All Right” by Elvis Presley during rock n’ roll week. Priscilla Presley was at that show, and “she looked at me, and she said, ‘Scotty, can I tell you something?’ I said, ‘absolutely, Priscilla.’ She said, ‘Elvis would’ve loved you.’ I had to sing after that! That was the best compliment I’ve ever received.”
