Jana Kramer reunited with One Tree Hill co-star Austin Nichols on the latest episode of Whine Down with Jana Kramer, and opened up about a “scary” moment she experienced while the duo filmed their upcoming movie.
Kramer and Nichols star in Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story, a Lifetime “Ripped from the Headlines” thriller that will premiere this month. The film will also feature Kramer’s real-life daughter, Jolie Rae Caussin, 8, in her acting debut. Kramer and Nichols portray the story of Metzer’s abusive marriage and staged attack by a masked man, who turns out to be her husband, according to information Kramer shared earlier this year. Kramer was also set to film a PSA for LIfetime’s Stop Violence Against Women initiative.Nichols appeared on Whine Down with Jana Kramer to talk about Gaslit By My Husband with Kramer, who recalled one moment during filming that was difficult for her to get through. The scene reminded Kramer of a previous abusive relationship, and she predicted, “I think I’m gonna struggle at this. …I just lost it and I had to go outside, and then we had to take five because I just, my whole body was just like back in it and it was so fricking scary.
“But the only person that I felt safe around that moment was being there with Austin and knowing he had me and that that wasn't what was going on,” Kramer continued, speaking about trusting her co-star, later telling him that even in a role as the “bad guy,” he “always (tries) to find the heart” in the story. “This was just a movie. And I had to almost, like I had to take five minutes, put my feet on the ground outside, take a few deep breaths. …I got to take the power back in that moment.”

“There is a lot to say around this but for now….I am ready to bring this true story to life and be a conduit for freedom for other women. Also wildly proud to have my daughter play my on screen daughter alongside me and of course work again with [Austin Nichols]. Thank you [Lifetime] for this next journey,” Kramer wrote in her caption on Instagram when she first announced her role in the movie, adding the hashtag, “domestic violence awareness.” Kramer’s confirmation of the film arrived shortly after she teased that her next role is one that “will be challenging bit it’s one I’m ready for. …here’s two things I can say about the movie. It’s a true story…..and it’s not Christmas 😉,” following her recent Lifetime role in A Cowboy Christmas Romance.
Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story will premiere on June 9.
