Lainey Wilson and Kelly Clarkson competed against one another to test their country music trivia on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Broadcast journalist Hoda Kotb hosted the trivia game — appropriately titled “Hoda My Beer” — as the two superstar artists tested their knowledge of the genre.
“I’m nervous. I know how this one is over here,” Wilson said before the game started, pointing to Clarkson. Kotb agreed, “she’s very competitive,” and explained the rules of the game. Kotb would read a clue so Wilson and Clarkson could guess an iconic country artist. Whichever player hit their button and delivered the correct answer first would win that point; however, if either one hit the button before Kotb was finished reading the full question, the TODAY with Hoda & Jenna co-anchor would stop reading it, she said. In that case, the other player would be allowed to steal.
The competition heated up as Wilson and Clarkson called out their answers for questions that described Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Blake Shelton, Patsy Cline, The Chicks and others. During The Kelly Clarkson Show, the chemistry superstar also joined Wilson on stage to deliver a duet version of the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year’s latest single, “Country’s Cool Again.” Wilson also chatted with Clarkson for an interview, during which she shared her reaction to Clarkson’s recent “Heart Like A Truck” cover.
Wilson is nominated at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards, alongside other heavy-hitters in the genre like Luke Combs, Jelly Roll and others. See the full list of country artists nominated here.
