Reba McEntire is set to star in another sitcom.
The country music legend will also executive produce the show with Julie Abbott, plus Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis, all of whom worked on Reba, the beloved early 2000s sitcom that aired for six seasons, ending in 2007. The untitled comedy show that’s in the works will reportedly follow “Reba (as she) inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.”
It was not immediately clear as of publication time on Wednesday (January 31), however, whether filming for the pilot of the NBC show has begun, or when the show might premiere. It was also unclear whether there would be any other familiar faces from Reba, a show that has recently seen demand for a reboot.
Reba premiered in 2001. The show starred the “I’m A Survivor” artist as Reba Hart, “a single mom of three, navigating life in a Houston suburb.” Other actors appearing in the show, playing McEntire’s family, include JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Scarlett Pomers, Mitch Holleman, Christopher Rich and Melissa Peterman.
Peterman has since reunited with McEntire onscreen in The Hammer, a crime drama that also included the Voice coach’s boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, in the cast. McEntire, who was announced as this year’s Super Bowl National Anthem performer, previously said in an interview on The Bobby Bones Show that she was “trying hard” for a reboot of Reba, though nothing has been confirmed to be in the works since then.
