Brittney Spencer kickstarted a fresh era in her career with the release of her long-awaited debut album, My Stupid Life. The highly-anticipated 13-track collection released on Friday (January 19).
Spencer has been blazing her own trails in Nashville over the past few years, releasing powerful singles and collaborating with other artists in the genre (including The Highwomen — the supergroup made up of Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires — Brothers Osborne and others). Some of her previous work includes “Sober & Skinny,” “Compassion,” “a hundred years old,” “better as friends” and more.
The powerhouse singer-songwriter embraced her debut album release day with a post on Instagram set to the title track. She thanked her fans “for waiting, for fumbling through lyrics at shows to try and keep up with songs you hadn’t been able to learn prior to, for encouraging and supporting me every step of the way. can’t wait to shout-sing along to all 13 of these tracks with y’all on the road 🫶🏾✨”

“I love, now, throwing my own life experiences into songs,” Spencer told iHeartRadio of her songwriting in an interview last year. Her honest songwriting and live performances has strongly resonated with audience thus far, including her Grand Ole Opry debut and joining legendary artists like Willie Nelson and Reba McEntire on tour. She writes about “things that I feel, things that I’ve learned. I kind of like to take whatever’s…in the back of my mind or in the back of my heart, and kind of just pull it to the forefront.
“…I still feel really new,” she added in her previous interview with iHeartRadio. “I starting breaking onto the scene back in 2020. …I still feel really new, but I’m starting to feel a little worn in, as well, which is nice. It makes me feel like I’m actually acclimating to the changes in my life. Three years ago, I was sitting on my couch writing songs. Now, I’m still sitting on my couch writing songs, but now I’m sharing them, not just online, but I’m sharing them in front of hundreds, sometimes thousands of people. It’s wild.”
Spencer is joining Grace Potter on the “Mother Road Tour,” including with a show on Friday night in Portland, Maine. Spencer lists dozens of performance dates on her website, marking a strong kickoff to the new year.
