Reba McEntire will perform the National Anthem at Super Bowl LVIII, the NFL announced as the league revealed the pregame lineup on Thursday morning (January 18). The beloved country star will perform on Super Bowl Sunday, along with Post Malone, who will perform “America The Beautiful,” and Andra Day, who will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
McEntire wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that she’s “honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time!”
“I got the news from my manager, Justin McIntosh. He said that they wanted me to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, and I said, ‘oh my gosh! Well, let me think about that,’” McEntire said in an interview on CBS Mornings with Gayle King and Nate Burleson. “And [actor] Rex Linn, my boyfriend, who is a huge football fan, he said, ‘yes! She’ll do it! Absolutely!’
“I’ve been singing the National Anthem… I started in 1974, singing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City,” McEntire continued in the CBS Mornings interview, when asked whether she was nervous to prepare for the National Anthem performances. “So, I sang the National Anthem there for 10 years, and how you get ready for it, you just warm up like you do a concert and sing it about five or six times and get in there and do it.”
“I’m honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time,” McEntire said in a statement, per her record label. “2024 marks 50 years since I was discovered singing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate that anniversary.”
The NFL announced in September that Grammy Award-winning artist Usher will headline the highly-anticipated Super Bowl LVIII halftime show. Usher said in a statement to ESPN at that time that “it’s an honor of a lifetime,” to perform the halftime show. I can't wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they've seen from me before.”
McEntire joins a growing list of country artists who have performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Last year, Chris Stapleton delivered a soulful rendition of the National Anthem (which he released just in time for Fourth of July celebrations). Before that, Mickey Guyton sang the Anthem at the 2022 Super Bowl. Other country stars who have previously performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl include Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Garth Brooks and more.
Super Bowl LVIII will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s set for February 11.
